The book included major characters from “Lord of the Rings,” including Samwise Gamgee, Aragorn and Sauron, according to court documents, as well as verbatim copying of at least 15 poems or passages from the trilogy; the use of Middle-earth and dozens of other settings from the original books, described in detail; and the duplication of a central plot and structure, among other copied elements. Court documents also said Polychron had conceived an entire seven-book series, “The War of the Rings.” The flow of publications was only temporarily slowed by Tolkien’s death. The long-awaited Silmarillion, edited by Christopher Tolkien, appeared in 1977. In 1980 Christopher also published a selection of his father’s incomplete writings from his later years under the title of Unfinished Tales of Númenor and Middle-earth. Vhledání původu pohádek nepovažuje podstatné metody folkloristů, čili hledání podobných motivů a jejich porovnávání, je pro něj důležitý konkrétní nápad autora a následné šíření příběhu vprostoru a čase. Samotný vznik pohádky přirovnává kvytahování různých motivů zjakéhosi kotle, což je podle něj důvod, proč se vpohádkách mohou setkávat božské bytosti sbytostmi zlidského světa apod.
